Medigap Plan B
Medicare Supplement Plan B, also known as Medigap Plan B, has the same benefits as Plan A.
Additionally, Plan B pays your Part A hospital deductible. This is important. Your Part A deductible is $1,484 in 2021 — for each benefit period — and it tends to slightly increase each year. But if you have Plan B, you won’t have to worry about that deductible increasing.
Medigap Plan B Benefits
Plan B covers the following:
✔ First 3 pints of blood
✔ Medicare Part A deductible
✔ Medicare Part B coinsurance
✔ Part A hospice care coinsurance
✔ Part A coinsurance and hospital costs
Costs Associated with Medigap Plan B
Plan B policyholders are responsible for their Part B deductible, along with Part B excess charges, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, and foreign travel emergency expenses. Other Medicare Supplement plans may cover these items.
Medigap Plan B Rates
Each insurer that offers Plan B dictates their own rates, which can vary by region. Your gender, age, zip code, and tobacco usage also impact the price. Some people are eligible for household discounts.
Since the benefits are standardized, you’ll want to choose a carrier with low rates. A Medigap Plan B with one company has the same coverage as Plan B with the next company.
More on Plan B
The best time to enroll is during your Medigap open enrollment period.
Don’t confuse Medigap Plan B for Medicare Part B. Part B is your outpatient medical coverage that you buy directly from Social Security.
These things have similar sounding names, which can make the Medicare terminology difficult to understand. If you’re feeling lost, don’t hesitate to contact us.
